2 computer workflow
on Dec 19, 2013 at 11:55:39 pm

I can't quite wrap my head around how to work on a project on 2 different computers.

Before, at the end of an edit session I would just copy my event file and my project file to my google drive, that way I didn't need to carry a usb stick or anything.

Now I would like to just copy the library in the same way, but how can I do this easily without deleting the generated files?

Do you want do delete the generated files? To keep the files small?

Yeah, I just want a <100mb file for fast cloud transfers.

assuming you have the same media and setup (effects etc) on the second computer, just export the project XML (using extended view) and then import it on the other machine. fcpxml is hugely improved and you should end up with the exact same thing on the other end. If the media folder structure is different you may need to relink or something. Try it. :-)

That could work but it still seems like a bit more complicated than before - I'll have to investigate this further.

Well, you may not need to relink at all. Do you need to relink using your current method, or does X on machine 2 find everything where it expects it to be?

Currently I don't have to relink. I just have 1 event and 1 project so I overwrite the currentversion.fcpproject and fcpevent and everything works fine.

[Loren Risker] " overwrite the currentversion.fcpproject and fcpevent and everything works fine."

Then the XML method should work fine. Is your original media in the event (library), or shared?

It's in the event, I'll give it a shot.
