Well if the stories are to be believed 10.9.1 is needed for FCPX 10.1 and the new MacPro and it's just appeared in software update.

I'm willing to wager it's more hardware than software related.

May the update be a sign of the new X and Tube Pro, that being the Mac Pro. Time will tell.

Highly unlikely that there would be another OS upgrade, 10.9.2, before month end. I’m guessing there are going to be some people staying up to midnight on the west coast to check the Apple Store for the status of the Mac Pro order page.

And all through the house,
Not a keyboard was stirring,
Not even a mouse…

only $600 to go from D500's to D700's?, if that's true I'd get the 700's in a heartbeat but I expect those 700's come with a much much heftier price tag.

ah well, we'll see soon enough i guess :-D

Wow, I was expecting the D700 upgrade to be closer to $1000.

If it's indeed $600, I might have to go for it. I've had my current Mac Pro for almost 5 years, and would like to not worry about upgrades for another 5 years.

I'd also feel dumb to not take advantage of a $300 upgrade price to go from 256GB to 512Gb on the main drive.

if you take the six core model as base config I expect the D700's will come with a $1250 pricetag. Considering the retail price (they're essentially w9000's) of about $6000 for a pair that's pretty cheap.

That's the strange thing about these rumoured prices, a 12 core xeon retails at about $2900, but to upgrade from a 6 core to a 12 core is $3000? That dog sure don't hunt… And those $6000 GPU's would come at a price of only 600 extra??

it's always guessing but i'm guessing to go from 6 to 8 cores you pay $1000, and to go from 6 to 12 $2250 extra, perhaps a bit less. It is still strange when you compare that to the d700's but Tim Cook was very outspoken about the deal they've got on those GPU's.

ah well…. it's already tuesday here ;-)

I just got a written spreadsheet from an Apple biz rep that says those upgrade prices from MacRumors are true.

From the 6 core machine:
256GB to 512GB HD: $300
16 to 32Gb: $400
D500 to D700: $600

For the 4 core machine:
upgrade to 6 cores: $500
256GB to 512GB HD: $300
12 to 16GB: $100
12 to 32GB: $500
D300 to D500: $400
D300 to D700: $1000

In that case I don't have a choice anymore: I just have to get those d700's!

Also the extra 16GB of ram for $300 isn't too bad. Starting to look a lot like christmas! :-)

Huh,

Wonder if this is kinda the update rough equivalent of needing to erect scaffolding before you change the roofline on a building?

Interesting.
