Does anyone know if FCPX can handle the codec for the above 4k camcorder?
XAVC S format, MPEG4-AVC/H264
If yes, would it be the wisest thing to convert to AppleProRes HQ?
Thanks

My guess is that you'd have the choice of either rewrapping to h264, or optimizing to ProRes SQ (not HQ).

I like to optimize h264 material, but you don't have to.

I have also never worked with that camera before so you'd have to test it out and weigh the pros and cons of transcoding vs rewrap.

The XAVC S video included in FDR-AX1 is not compatible with Final Cut Pro. Apple does not respond on these forums and no one here knows or can say when, if ever, XVAC-S will be natively supported by FCP X. So, is there any workaround to resolve the issue? Well, you just need to convert Sony FDR-AX1 videos to FCP most compatible Apple ProRes codec for native importing and editing.
