Wait.

There's a new MacPro?!

Well shiver me timbers, what a treat.

In all seriousness, they keep touting the support of "full resolution 4k video".

How big is the new Cinema Display going to be? :)

Don't ask Larry Jordan anything about 4K.

He's hosting a seminar on the subject '4K & Final Cut Pro X' on Nov 12th in Burbank

Can't believe it's not to do with the new MacPro and updated FCPX.

Absolutely. If FCPX and the MacPro aren't both released by then I'll eat my hat or other available equivalent attire.

I'll probably just ending up ordering mine thru the local Apple Store. I have a good relationship with the business reps there- and the standard business discount applied to a top-end MacPro will probably be enough to buy another Mac!

It does seem like it would be the perfect time for the parade.

It's certainly been a long long wait for the Mac Pro and whilst I'm looking forward to a FCPX update I've got pretty used to it in its present form.

The whole 4K thing is all pretty aspirational in terms of end delivery format and totally seductive as an acquisition format and were business a bit busier I'd be interested in the new Sony 4k Handicam to play around with.

Wasn't it Larry Jordan recently saying he didn't have any inside information and then speculated?
So either now he knows or this is just coincidental.

Maybe he didn't know then, what he knows now.

And soon, we will all know what he knew, and when, knowing what we know now.

You know?

I guess, this is why it pays to be in the know.

There are others I heard who were only brought up to speed recently- so it certainly plausible.

In terms of when 10.1 will be in our hands, depending on when Mavericks and the MacPro ship, either 22nd, 29th, or Nov 5th.

And "no credit card required!" Could this be designed to gauge what the demand will be?

They are offering free overnight shipping on the MacPro.

I do suspect they're looking at getting in their stock order in advance.

Of course it's harvesting emails because they certainly are going to blast back to those who sign up when the time comes. They may even ask for Credit Card info at that point.

Tekserve did something similar at the end of August.
http://rsvp.tekserve.com/get-ready-for-the-new-mac-pro

Seems they're trying to gauge interest.

And how many preorders will cancel once it becomes clear you won't be getting started for anything less than $4k.

I will bet you 1 dollar that you *will* be able to get one for under 4k.

Apple uses odd pricing. May I suggest you gents agree on rounding rules? For example, who wins if the starting price is $3999?

I'm thinking it'll be only a bit lower than Gary's call.
$3499

Currently base MacPro is $2499 but it's only Quad Core. I think they'll have 6, 8, 12 core versions.
Current 6 Core MacPro is $2999. It's $3249 with 2 5770s.

The new BTO 27" iMac with Quad i7 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB and no other changes is $2399 so that's sort of the new base (bottom end) MacPro replacement. Of course that has a nice monitor so it's not 1 to 1.

So I think it's reasonable that 6 Core with 2 of whatever base AMD FirePro GPUs would be $3499 (a bit more than the old 6 Core single GPU MacPro. Maybe $3249 if it matches the old 6 core with 2 GPUs but I think the new machines will be a bit more expensive.

So maybe $3249 but IMHO more likely $3499.

What you are forgetting is a) no spinning drive and b) even just a single FirePro GPU is well more expensive than the 5770. If there's ONLY dual FirePros as an option, you are well over $4000 then.

I think the economies of scale, Apple being a large purchaser, will keep prices lower than what you might see for individual component purchases. When the MacBook Air moved to new SSD PCIe drives the price didn't change.

Used Mac Pros seem like a bargain. My 3.1 is still running fine three years on. I have a USB 3.0 card along with nvidea and lots of RAM.For faster rendering I use the mb Pro I7. I likely will upgrade to a later M Pro before the new one. I plan to wait on the next gen before considering buying.

Al,

Which USB 3 card are you using and have you run into any compatibilities issues with it?

Seems to work fine, no issues in a month of use.

Scale only drops the price by so much. And there might only be an option for *dual* GPUs.

Let's not forget PCIe based storage, of which I would be surprised if the *minimum* is under 512GB.

Harvesting emails?

LOL!

What a waste if your only going to get 500 plus :)

All kidding aside, exciting times ahead.

However my personal Mac Pro far exceeds what I need currently.

And yes I work in 4K.

Dont mean much if I cant display it :P

The WWDC introduction and the teaser page on Apple's site are explicit that the MacPro comes standard with dual GPUs.
