My new shaver shown here is just slightly more expensive than the typical store bought pack of razors.

You missed a spot. Very shiny though. I like it!

I thought the new screens were 75% less reflective. It looks very reflective in that picture.

It's still glossy, but that's a bright yellow desk being reflected. I promise, the new and the old side by side show a pretty impressive difference.

I just did a similar test dropping a 30 second generator into a 1080p timeline.
Added a 30 second natrual clip generator, then added 80 gaussian blur and 80 zoom blur (variable look setting).

#1 Mac Pro 2010, 12 core, 64 gigs ram, 5770 graphics

#2 2012 27 iMac, loaded w/ 3tb fusion, highest graphics card, 32 gigs ram, and everything you could get pretty much loaded in.

It probably says a lot about how the ATI/AMD 5770 is compared to nVidia 680MX.

Personally this leads me to believe that I may be correct in assuming the MacPro replacement will have to have a significant GPU to outperform.

For the fun of it, you could check CPU% when you run that to see what's happening in that department.

Honestly, I thought when I was doing this that two blurs at extreme levels with randomness over 30 seconds would be enough test the systems, but Apple doesn't care about pros anymore and now we don't even have time to get coffee between renders.

Jerks.

FWIW - the new Fusion drives inside the iMacs also clock in at over 300 on the BMD read/write test.

Oh yeah! i'm getting between 300 and 400. Sweet.

That's awesome.

Sorry, we literately got it in last night and migrated everything overnight. Haven't had a ton of time to play with today. Apparently people keep expecting us to work or something.

This thing is stupid quiet, too.

Although the glare shot didn't do it justice, I won't be buying anymore cinema displays until this becomes standard on all. It's much better, especially straight on.

[Oliver Peters] "FWIW - the new Fusion drives inside the iMacs also clock in at over 300 on the BMD read/write test."

The one niggle is that the 3TB Fusion drive doesn't support Bootcamp (yet) whereas the 1TB FD does.
I know some people think I'm a Mac fanbois but I do use Windows a lot.

Craig,

There is a way to install Windows on the 3TB, but the approach is not supported by Apple. Make sure you have backups before attempting this. Here is a link to the process. ( http://dice.neko-san.net/2012/12/how-to-install-boot-camp-on-a-3tb-fusion-d...

It is great to now have huge internal drives, but some of the options for users are getting left behind due to formatting limitations. Hope Apple brings out a Bootcamp update to handle this for the large drive.

[John Davidson] "but Apple doesn't care about pros anymore and now we don't even have time to get coffee between renders."

Clearly Apple doesn't care about pros. This is proof. Amateurs and hobbyists have no patience so they need real time performance. Pros, we're used to long renders especially if we're billing by the hour. ;-)
That an iMac is that fast should be conclusive evidence that Apple doesn't care about Pros at all.

Yeah, but it still wouldn't hit the front page unless you put a really cute cat in it too.
