They switched to the IPAD IMOVIE IEtc...things. We are a small market!
Next step they will abandon Macpros I Bet.
I was one of the first to edit features with FCP and liked it.
With Lion fcp 7 will need and update but It is allready discontinued.
Looking back at Avid, sorry.

Or continue using FCP 7. It still works.

We Needed a better soft to deal with the new formats (RED and so on). We cannot be freezed with fcp 7 and snow leopard. Surely fcp7 won't work with Lion!

Actually the rumor mills have the next Mac Pro being rack mountable. So we'll see what comes this August when the next Mac Pros roll out.

I remember attending a lecture at the LAFCPUG with Walter Murch, who had just finished editing "Jarhead" on FCP. I can't imagine him being able to do that with FCP X (iMovie Semi-pro). Just the lack of proper audio support would be a show stopper for him, let alone the dozens of other pro features not existent in the this new iPad app.

And don't discount Premiere - the current version has all the upgrades FCP7 needed - and it's cheaper than Avid.

Yes, Cheaper than $999. Premiere CS5.5 Full is $799 and if you have Aftereffects CS4 already you can get the Production Premium bundle for Just $1099 which includes, well all lot.

My bad... didn't know Premiere was that cheap!

Still, that's only 200$ difference. But I digress, don't want to be called an Avid fanboy...

That $999 includes the entire suite of Avid 3rd party apps: Squeeze 7, Boris Continuum Complete 7, Smart Sound 5, Sonic DVD and Boris FX. Not bad, actually. Plus the peace of mind knowing that you'll be working with a truly "pro" app that will continue to be "pro" until the end of time or the company goes bust, whichever comes first.

Cheaper, but not by much. It comes down to preference, I suppose. I've always been an Avid guy and find it to be like an extension of my hand.

There are a lot of people popping up on this forum suddenly to bash FCPX and run to AVID. A few too many.

I would be careful if I were another NLE manufacturer being seen shilling on user forums.

Of course - I'm sure you're not a shill.
