Remember when Apple dropped floppy drives? How about Flash on iPhones?

Feels like the same thing here - they are always ahead of the curve - even to the point of angering customers.

In reality I figure much of what everyone wants will come sooner rather than later, till then FCP 7 will live on for a long time...
just like OS 7.6 did!

Thanks,
Harry

Actually I do and it was a pain in the ass. I had to start emailing myself EDL's (CMX3600 and the like) to another computer so I could put them on a floppy to get them into an online bays edit computer which could not be networked.

This is not the same thing with FCP X, convenience like an old floppy is one thing, it is like moving to firewire, you buy a new piece of gear or transition to a new media type no big deal, it is expected.

Fundamentally removing functionality, not making it backward compatible is completely different. It is a tool that peoples livelihood and business rests on,it is not a plaything or a hobby. If they cannot do their job with it, the tool is no longer useful. I feel that unless they treat this like a public beta release and very quickly add back true professional functions, It will not last long in the professional broadcast arena. Heck, no cinema tools to you cannot even use it for films anymore.

Lets see how may Post Houses go back to Avid or Premiere in the next 12 months.

you know what didn't happen when apple discontinued the floppy drive? The entire editing post house paradigm based on FCP didn't explode in your face.

Yes, I do. What I also remember is if you plugged in an external USB floppy drive it just worked except for "soft" eject. And last time I checked about year and a half ago it still worked. See the difference?
