Is this going to be the longest drumroll yet?..
on Jun 11, 2012 at 7:27:42 pm

http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/whats-new/

New features "roadmap" for the year now publicly on apple's site. Start drumroll... NOW!

Screenshot:

Also info on the features from the WWDC-keynote (retina resolution, 9 streams of 1080p ProRes 422 and such).

The question is- when is "later"? Later as in the latter part, or later as in "not right away, but rather soonish"?

FCP X can wait.

Lets mourn the loss of Mac Pro first :(

Is anyone even going to buy one of these "new" MacPro's? Without Thunderbolt or USB3 what's the point? The speed bump is minimal...

No duh....

Ah, but congress will have a special session as you can't pull the life support plug even if there is no brain function left in the patient. That will only cost us all another 50million ;-)

I don't get it at this point. I can't imagine buying one. It's poor price performance.
Time to see what Apple does with the iMac updates.

Bah. To talk about the non-news of the Mac Pro isn't quite that interesting as I first thought.

Oh yes, I would like a new one. If it does arrive, it'll be something to discuss. If apple does away with it, it'll be something to discuss. Right now though, It's neither. Until that changes, which I suspect it will rather soon...

Oh- better mourn the death of the iPod, iMac, Mac Mini and every other peace of hardware they didn't show as well.

What Apple did is just consolidate the old MacPro lines given the low sales. 8 Core is gone. Now just 4, 6, 12. No changes in specs at all.

As far as I see it, for us at least, the official announcement on their own web of the upcoming fcpx features is a really significant step for apple. The clean up of the old Mac Pro line is not. The former interests me. The latter doesn't. When they do announce a new line, I will be thrilled. When they do announce the death of it, I will be appalled.

*WHINE* But now back to the OT!

Just a guess, but having all of the "camera native" support is probably going to rely on AV Foundation to handle all of that. I think it will be a post Mountain Lion affair.

I hope not. I'm not sure the local pest control would know how to deal with that.

Sorry, that was there a few days ago or even earlier. I read it myself. Must be sorta new, but it's the exact wording from the NAB leak anyway.

Well....wait.

Compressor v4.0.4 just pooped up in the App Store. APpears to be just retina related, though.

OK, just got the FCPX (10.0.5) as well.

"enhances overall stability" and retina performance.

Perhaps when I said enhance, I meant improves.

Is nobody commenting on "just pooped up"? I'm sure it's a typo, but c'mon - is EVERYBODY Freudian slipping today? Or just Apple pooping fatigue?

[Tim Wilson] "s nobody commenting on "just pooped up"? "

I think most people wouldn't argue with Compressor being pooped up. Have you looked at Apple's H.264 encoding? This from the company that believes file delivery is the way to go. Can they at least implement direct X264 support?

Yup- exact, more or less. But I hadn't seen it before (promted there by the features exposed at WWDC), and got curious.

I was prompted there by a thread a few days ago asking what people thought Apple meant by "Multichannel Audio Tools" so I went there and it was there. Although I thought the little box it was in was across both columns at the bottom instead of 1, so something changed.
