Things that make you hmmmm.
So is Logic Pro about to get a boost

But the deal isn't close yet. It does look like Apple is shopping for Pro Apps toys though.

Or they could cannibalize it, fold some of its functionality into Logic, then EOL it.

This seems very possible give Apple's history.

Certainly possible but not a bad thing given the potential improvements . . .assuming they take away a lot. Very little of Shake (Optical Flow . . . ) wound up in the Pro Apps.

Either way, Apple looks like they're trying to improve the feature set of their Pro products.

There are some theories that they have tech that will help with Siri

It would be ironic if Apple just wanted to use the sample level editing for Siri.

Based on my twenty or so years experience with Apple, they are the very soul of irony.

Speaking of irony, I'll add that all the Pro Apps that were purchased have been killed . . . .except one. Logic.

It may well be that they're building from the ground up and decided they could buy some missing pieces. That may mean that Logic X will be completely new (and the name carries on like FCPX) and Redmatica is going to be cannibalized and discarded. If you look at the company's worth, they're tiny, It's Tim Cook's lunch money. They get to add a small number of experienced developers to the Logic team as well. It may well be like Adobe buying Automatic Duck.

I do think it'll be good for Apple and Pro Audio if it happens. Even if it's all rolled into Logic X (and we can round trip to it).

Redmatica is basically a giant database management tool for organising audio samples ...for sorting and indexing massive amounts of audio samples.

Hm... Database management... one application springs to mind. Paired with the information sessions around NAB where Apple promised to look into and deliver audio goodness for fcpx- well, that database management for audio samples might come handy. I wonder what Redmatica brings that fcpx lacks in this departement? Does anyone here have more insight? If Redmatica is intended for fcpx (if Apple is indeed acquiring the company) I'm more than curious to find out what that means for fcpx audio capabilities (God knows it needs a lot in that departement).

They have more than just sample management software. See link I posted. Sampling and Instrument building complete with Audio Unit support including Logic 8 and 9.
Depending on where they're going with it, it looks like this would be part of Logic Pro X and the database sample management part of the whole metadata management scheme.

See KeyMap Pro

and Auto Sampler

Whether for Logic or FCPX it's reassuring to see Apple focused on growing and enhancing their pro apps.
While others have their doubts, I don't doubt that Apple sees their pro apps as not only pro but the future of pro.
They've got the money, the vision and they're vested.
Again, it's reassuring.

Could it be used for iTunes and swap sound samples to billions of music tracks?

Just trying to keep the part time nay sayer theme going on this forum. :)

I had a chance to play around a lot with X today on 10.0.4 and 10.7.4. It had been the first time since 10.7.4 that I'd had a chance to spend any quality time.

I transferred a pretty large project with 24 tracks of audio in some of the comps using 7toX.

There's not a ton of media, but there was version after version of edits.

It took a while to translate, but man was I impressed with the accuracy.

The keywords will need some clean up, but it's not a big deal. It's too bad encompassing bins can't come over to an FCPX folder.

The current AJA drivers seem to be working a bit more fluidly. I didn't have to knock down the res to "better playback".

It is certainly feeling much closer to letting the co-workers take a stab at it.

Cant wait to get the audio enhancements.

Jeremy

If you go to the company web page, their products are all around sample control and managment. Basically fine automation of volume within a sample plus plugin handling.

This would be mostly useful IP for Logic. They are a small company.
