The following graphics cards are not OpenCL compatible and do not meet the OpenCL compatible graphics card system requirement for Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5 and Compressor 4.
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB (two dual-link DVI ports) Mac Pro (Early 2008)

UGH!

So, what happens when you try install or open FCP X with a Radeon HD 2600 card installed? Does anyone know?

I wasn't even able to download. When I went to purchase, it interrupted and said my graphics card did not meet the minimum specs and so I could not download.

The italics is the message I can't. I'm blocked from purchasing so there's no opportunity to try to install.

My guess is even if one purchases on another computer, as soon as one tries on the offending computer it'll be blocked since that too requires Apple ID login which would then detect the computer as a no go.

This is truly a bummer. I have NO PROBLEM getting a new GPU but Apple does not officially support the 5770 on MacPro 3.1 and while there are many confirmations it works, I have no idea if Apple's "detection demons" will accept it.

I do hope someone with a MacPro 3.1 or earlier running a 5770 (it seems a number have done that in the past) can confirm an FCPX purchase today.

May be a blessing in disguise Craig?

I got confirmation from someone in another forum with MacPro 1.1 (2006) and Radeon 5770 that they were able to purchase FCPX.

Granted it's not ready for prime time but I may want to start my "training" for the day Apple finally adds key features like Multicam, XML, XDCAM support.

I'm have changed my tune entirely Craig. As of this moment in time, I see no reason to rush into anything X related. There's no one here in Hollywood who'll be clamoring to use it anytime soon, so other than possibly training amateurs in its use, I'm going to wait until I see either a real need, real improvements, or both.

Radeon 5770 from Apple Online Store $249. Many have already done it. Good going back to original 2006 MacPro. I should be getting mine today.
