And what were they comparing it to?

Corel VideoStudio Pro X4 and Premiere Pro, and Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD...

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2387496,00.asp

No mention of comparisons to Avid, or Media 100...or Lightworks. So, again, we see what market is most receptive to FCX. Who it is targeted to.

"It gave the program it's "Editor's Choice" based on price, speed, the latest update and the ease with which those who are ready to move on from iMovie can make the transition into professional-league video editing."

Last line of the article says it all.

And also...

"Our review is unapologetically intended for those readers, whether they're running small video businesses or are moving up from Apple iMovie '11 ($14.99, 4.5 stars) or another consumer-level app. Since it's such a major departure, we'll evaluate Final Cut Pro X based on its own features and merits, and in comparison with its competition rather than its predecessor."

Doesn't consider Avid amongst the competition. I wonder if they even know about Avid. I for one never hear of Corel VideoStudio

[Shane Ross]"I for one never hear of Corel VideoStudio"

I think it came bundled with a $75(US) video card I purchased two years ago... I never tried it though (since I already use PPro). :-)

"There are no track numbers along the lower left edge; Final Cut Pro X calls tracks "lanes," and you can add as many of these as you like. There's no 100-track limit like you find in other video editors."

Now there's a feature worth touting, the ability to have "more" than 100 layers of video. And I would have thought 100 layers of video was enough -- shows what I know.

I realize that a lot of Avid and FCP 7 see PPro as something of a toy... but comparing it to Corel VideoStudio Pro and Vegas Movie Studio HD... really?

The links to other NLE reviews at the end also caught my attention:

"More Video Editor Reviews:
• Apple Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3
• CyberLink PowerDirector 10
• Adobe Premiere Elements 10
• Pixorial
• CyberLink PowerDVD 11 Ultra"

That's all fine... nice article. It would have been helpful to know who the actual author is (not staff) and what their experience level is, so we could get some indication of their qualifications for judging what's important and ground breaking, however.

I think if you would read the article, Mitch, you'd easily be able to glean what you're looking for.

FWIW, I did read the entire article... I'm not sure why point you're making here? Not being confrontational, just not getting your meaning...

I don't want to do that, but I have to say consider the source.
PC Magazine isn't exactly my 'go to' source for information on professional editing apps.
