How do I go back to FCP 7
on Jun 21, 2011 at 2:53:32 pm

I quickly installed FCPX to explore its new features.

Big dissapointment so far!

The biggest... I cannot open previous projects.

Does anyone know how I can revert the installation and open FCP 7 again?

I'm really the kind of person ready to advance to new software, but so far FCPX is a step back, or actually a few steps back. imovie Pro is the best description.

FCP7 hasn't gone it's just been moved to a different folder in your Apps folder

Have you tried "Search Posts"? Enlightenment may be there.

It's independent of FCP 7.

FCP 7 should still be on your system and should open just fine. The two can co-exist.

Don't they both work on the same system? David did a great article about running with a partition that would definitely enable that but I figured that they would possibly "play nice"

Thanks all.

Problem solved!

Have them side to side in my dock now.

At least I can explore FCPX to see what the REAL advance.

And in the meantime continue working as a PRO (7 that is)

Advice: don't buy FCPX. Wait!

How did you do this? I'm not finding FCP 7 on my system anywhere now that I've installed X.

Look in Applications. You should be able to find it in a folder marked Final Cut Studio.

Judging from the origin date of this thread, I'm guessing this was probably a feature of an early version of FCP X. There's no trace of FCP 7 on my system anymore and a quick Google search reveals that FCP X overwrites 7 these days.

Huh. That's not good. Do you still have Soundtrack Pro and Color? Or is the whole folder gone?

Yep, those are still there as well as Compressor and Motion. Just FCP got replaced.

I did a recent install of FCPX and it didn't wipe FCP Studio!

There's nothing we can't argue about on the FCPX COW Forum

I don't know why you don't have it, but I believe you don't. Here's someone else who has gone through a similar experience very recently.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5315921

They DID find it in the Studio folder in Applications. Its been a long time since I've done it personally, but as far as I know the install only replaces the icon on the dock and installs X to a separate folder. Why yours is not there, I can't say. What version of OSX are you using?
