FCP X install into FCP 7 Apps folder, will this hurt FCP 7?

The install instructions for FCP X from Apple say for a Mac with an existing FCP 7 install, to install FCP X into the exiting FCP 7 folder in Applications. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4781

Will this hurt my FCP 7 install in any way? I still need to use it.

[Reid VanVoris] "install FCP X into the exiting FCP 7 folder in Applications"

It most certainly does NOT say that and it's bulleted with clear instructions.

If an earlier version of Final Cut Studio is already installed on the computer, first create a folder titled "Final Cut Pro" in the Applications folder at the root level of your hard drive. Then, copy Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5 and Compressor 4 to the "Final Cut Pro" folder you created.

Thanks. I mis-read it the first time. Gotta check my glasses (and my brain) :-)

If you want to maintain a reliable FCP7 then I would either setup a dual boot drive with your FCP7 and Snow Leopard OS locked and on new drive (or a new partition) install Lion and FCPX. Lion and drivers will break FCP7. It is only a matter of time and FCP7 is legacy so anything the OS breaks will not get fixed.

This tutorial explains the partition approach -

My editing it pretty light these days so I'm not saying I'm a good test but what is FCPX on the same partition breaking? I have FCP 7, FCP X and even Premiere Pro all on a Lion partition and I'm not seeing any issue but once again I'm just doing basic editing. Just curious if people are really seeing issue or if this is a suggested safe approach.
