No previous version file import?
on Jun 21, 2011 at 1:43:59 pm

Just downloaded the new Final Cut Pro X. Looks pretty much like Imovie with timecode. I was trying to find out a way to open a previous project from FCP 7, but can't seem to find any way of doing it. Pretty interesting that they wouldn't include this functionality.

Did you try dragging a FCP 7 project file onto the FCPX icon on the doc? Interested in knowing if that will work.

Doesn't look like it but thankfully **puts sarcasm hat on** "all your iMovie Events and projects transfer seamlessly to Final Cut Pro. You can start your project with a quick rough cut in iMovie, then switch to Final Cut Pro for full-featured editing. Or if you usually work in iMovie, you can take your craft to the next level and leverage your existing work. Either way, you can keep cutting without a break in the action."

YAY!!! Look at me ma, I'm a real editor now!

Well I guess for $300 you can't expect too much. Hopefully they'll put some of the pro features back in, or there may be a bunch of FCP people switching over to AVID. Luckily I'm pretty happy with FCP 7. It's been good to me and my company so I'll continue to use it until a 'Final Cut Pro X' PRO version comes out or I get impatient and switch to AVID.

Although I was excited to see what X had to offer. I am still happy with FCP 7 as well. Confused about what exactly X is now. Disappointing to see what is being posted.
