Eyedropper to match colour values
on Jan 11, 2012 at 5:09:28 pm

Hi,
Does anyone know where the eyedropper tool is in FCP X? I'm trying to match the colour of a logo with a solid colour from the generators menu but can't find anywhere to match the colours like in FCP7!
Thanks in advance
Matt

Hi Matt

If you select the custom generator (it's black) from the generators and add it to the timeline - open the generator in inspector - in the published parameters there is a colour well - click on this and a colour display opens up - there is a 'magnify glass' picker there to allow to select a colour from anywhere on your screen.

hope that helps

In your Mac OsX Utilities folder you have a wonderful "Digitalcolor Meter".

Hi Raphael

Just wondering how you would be able to use the Digitalcolor Meter within FCPX?

Am I missing something?

The Digital meter gives you the RGB values, so you can set it manually in the generator.
I use the DCM often when working with Color that has no "Eye Dropper".
Is also interesting for because you can change the size of the picker and gives you the average of a group of pixels instead of just one.

Great tip, thanks! I never knew that existed - so useful!

Yeah, great tip!! I can't seem to add the exact values from the colour meter into the FCP X colour bars as it resets itself and also keeps disappearing off the screen but nonetheless, a great little find! Cheers

There's a preference in DCM to float its window over other apps.
