This forum has suddenly gone quiet. Are we all holding our breath for this weeks release (hopefully)?

Slightly disappointing on Apple's part - given all the "stay tuned for more information" comments. It looks as though it will just get released, pages on Apple's site will get updated with less than detailed information, and then we'll all be on here dissecting FCP X.

( No, i'm not hating on Apple...just an observation )

I doubt it will be a quiet release like, FCP X now available on the app store. If that is the case then I think it will come with a lot of product videos on Apple website.

All the trainers will have their take, Maybe Apple will also do that thing where they pull in some allstars in the film business who have been using the product to give it street cred from the get go.

I called the solstice earlier this month. I'll stick with that.

David

Were all waiting and excited (yes even the naysayers) :)
Honestly dont care how its dropped as long as I can download and start using.
I have a few crazy old projects I want to test.
Will I use it for prime-time, maybe but honestly Im sure were all not going to un-install the old copy :)

I'm honestly wondering what's going on with Apple's marketing. I wouldn't expect a quiet release either. Given today's date I would have assumed the video trade being invited to a press event of some sort. Maybe after their experience with the SuperMeet Sneak Peek, they feel "quiet" will result in less negative controversy.

I agree. FCP is just too prestigious an item for Apple to do a quiet release. I think you'll see a big dog and pony show before or after the end of the month...smoke and mirrors and magic...of the former, the usual ARDF, and some of the latter, too, if only to make the smoke and mirrors more believable. It's the way all magicians would like to operate, especially the marketing ones.

A show like this, perhaps: http://supermeet.com/ ??

If Larry Jordan intends on talking about or showing off FCP X, Apple are either making an exception to his NDA or they're going to release it in the next 48 hours... If it's the latter, then it will probably be on Tuesday 21st (Apple tend to release new products on Tuesdays), meaning we should have it in 36 hours or less...

Of course, it could just be the former, in which case it could be any time this month. Heck, it might even be next month if they decide to delay it.

Whatever they do, I just wish they'd hurry up and give us some information.

[Stephen Bakopanos] "If Larry Jordan intends on talking about or showing off FCP X, Apple are either making an exception to his NDA or they're going to release it in the next 48 hours..."

This is what is known as a non-sequitur.

Larry has been talking (or at least flapping his lips) about FCP X for months while still remaining under the terms of the Apple NDA. Why should one more show from Larry suddenly be "the" meaningful piece of the puzzle that points to the release date?

We've been told that FCP X will be released in June. Apple tend to release products on a Tuesday (and there's only two left in June). And Apple's last major announcement on FCP X was made at the Supergroup meeting in Vegas. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they released their product to coincide with the next Supergroup meeting where it can be demoed and detailed.

Given the dearth of information coming from Cupertino, all we can really do is look at the stars and check to see if they're aligning.

Apple also tends to push back release dates without any real mention.

[Stephen Bakopanos] "A show like this, perhaps: http://supermeet.com/ ??"

That would constitute a 'quiet' release tomorrow. I still think it will be a real dog and pony show with Apple core folks demo-ing the software, making claims about its performance and revolutionary nature, answering all the unanswered questions, and the obligatory high profile editors lending their experience with the beta and/or anticipatory salivations about using the software.

Of course if they just do an announcemnt and presser they can count on their legion of users in the media to push the news out well past the frontiers of the NLE community. But that would surprise me because low key is not their style...unless they're truly worried about backlash because smoke and mirrors can only distract so much.

The long and the short is we'll see soon enough.

You won't have to worry at all or make any difficult decisions if you prepare for the transition to FCP X and OS X Lion with a multi-boot configuration like the one I describe in my new tutorial: Prepare for a seamless transition to FCP X and OS X Lion

Does FCP X overwrite FCP 7 ?

Can they both run on the same machine?

Will FCP 7 projects open in FCP X?

[David Battistella] "Does FCP X overwrite FCP 7 ?"

Who knows? Who cares? That's the beauty of a multi-boot, multi-partition setup.

[David Battistella] "Can they both run on the same machine?"

Definitely on the same "virtual machine" with multiple boot partitions. Whether the different versions can actually reside side by side on a single partition is anyone's guess right now. I frankly wouldn't do it that way.

[David Battistella] "Will FCP 7 projects open in FCP X?"

Nobody knows except those who can't say...

Personally, Im interested in running FCP X on the same drive as my other apps (AE, Photoshop, Mocha, DVDSP, Compressor, Syntheyes, etc) so I can test it in my standard work flow. Since "nobody know nuttin'" at this point, thats my plan and Im sticking to it until further information is revealed ;-)
