Could we see the app this week?
on Jun 11, 2011 at 4:17:25 pm

The Apple Color Community has disappeared from the Apple Support Website so this could tell us that the app has either disappeared or was cannabilized and rolled into Motion and FCP (which would be a real shame).

But it could also tell us that Apple is preparing to release the app this week and is cleaning up the Support section to reflect the new app.

[Dave Jenkins] "The color forum is under Final Cut Studio - Refine list - Color"

Yep, a crappy way of doing it, but nonetheless no surprise from Apple.

But it did just happen towards the end of this week according to some folks on Twitter as the Color forum was around last weekend and earlier in the week.

So it looks like Apple is cleaning up the Pro Communities to get ready for Brand X software communities brought to you by the Powerpuff Girls. Or in other words, we could see the app this week.....

Not quite. It's been like that since the Apple forums were reorganized around the middle of April. Don't think there's any direct bearing on FCP and NAB as the reorg was talked about for a while. I wish they hadn't lumped them together either, but I don't think it's any time frame tea leave indicator, though this week is as good a bet as any.

All the best,

[Tom Wolsky] "I don't think it's any time frame tea leave indicator, though this week is as good a bet as any."

I'm willing to bank on the release being on any the next 19 days, excluding Saturdays and Sundays, which leaves only the following fourteen days: June 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 27, 28, 29, or 30.

I guess we're just down to the final two weeks so it'll be one of these next two. And with the App Store now where you're going to download it from, I guess that includes weekends too.

Might not be a bad idea to slip it out on a weekend when most shops are closed. Unless of course they release a new Lady Gaga single on iTunes on the same day......

Where were you looking that it's now gone Walter?

I'm seeing this

http://www.apple.com/support/color/

It's also got its own page

http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/color/

and it also still appears in the Apple support forums.

That's the support page. I'm talking about the Community page.

https://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa

apparently now everything has been rolled into one huge FCP/Motion/Color/SoundTrack Pro/Compressor/QMaster/DVDSP community. Makes total Apple sense.

I select June 23 because thats my birthday. It would make a very nice gift if released on that day. Thank god I just got a 10mb cable modem installed so I wont waste a special day watching the software download.

Larry Jordan is hosting a live seminar on June 12th called 'Discover Final Cut Pro X'. This would be a short seminar unless it had actually been released by then. So I'm betting June 12th... (which it already is here in NZ)

just noticed this... (maybe i'm not the first... but who has time to read through all of them)

now... if you look at the expiration date on the bottom this flyer....
it says June 17, which is this week friday.

why would Avid end their promotion this friday and not at the end of june, like Adobe?

maybe because they know stuff that Adobe (and us) don't.

and if FCPX is out for 299$ this Thursday, who would care for the FCP-Avid promotion... so they might as well go back to original price

i place one on 6.15.2011

That promotion started at NAB before FCPX was even announced.the end date has been there for a few months. Adobes promo started after fcpxwas announced, I think.

I'm going with June 22nd for the release. It's my birthday so it must be so.

[Michael Hancock] "That promotion started at NAB before FCPX was even announced"

actually, the promotion started the day it was announced... suggesting at least, that maybe Avid knew about the announcement too, not just the release date...

BTW, i just noticed the expiration date... not the announcement of course.

damn think is nerve wrecking... in a nerdy fun way

Tuesday 28th looks like a likely candidate. Although I'd put money on any day from the 27th-30th if I were a betting man.

Keep in mind Larry is also a beta tester so he's already using it. As with his initial blog posts about seeing the product in advance, I'm sure this is another example of Apple allowing him to demonstrate some elements of the product in advance of its release.

Maybe he'll address some of the many questions we lobbed at Apple about whether some of the "pro" features have remained in the app.

Even Larry's not 100% sure of the release date:

IMPORTANT NOTE: The final content of this seminar will be announced after Apple releases the new version of Final Cut Pro X. If, for any reason, FCP X is not shipping by the time of this event, this event will be postponed.
