Invisible audio in fcp x (a miracle or am i doing something wrong)
on Jul 28, 2011 at 9:02:17 pm

Am editing a small corporate job in fcp x, just got the feedback from the client.
I am cutting an interview and i just want to shorten a clip
I have the audio and video clips seperated. When i am deleting the part of the interviewclip that i want to delelte(am deleting as well the seperated audio and video file) something strange happens. The last part of the audio that i deleted became invinsible but is still hearable through the former part of the interview. Checked all tracks and can not see an extra audio, as well in the videoclips as in the seperated audio clips. The funny thing that it is still hearable and untill now impossible to get rid of. Anyone knows what i am doing wrong?

Thank you in advance

Hmm, maybe it's stuck in a render file. Not that you want to do lots of re-rendering but if you're brave use File/Delete Project Render Files.

Thank you Craig for your quick response, found a workaround just not to think about it anymore . exported in pro res and imported the movie file in fcp 7 where i made the simple cut.
Still i find it very odd

Wow, you had to go to FCP 7 to do what SHOULD have been the simplest of tasks. What does that say about this beta?

Had problems like this also. A similar bug is happening when you have a clip selected in the event-browser and can´t select anything in the timeline. I don´t think it´s the render file, but the RAM-cache.
What helps in these cases is to go out to the project-browser and reload the timeline/project.

Thank you for your help. Treid booth tips. But it didn't work out. Also made a copy and created a new project. Same problem. I find it very strange.

I think FCP X simply likes the audio that you want to cut out, and is simply initiating new FCP X command: Editor override.

It's the FCPX HAL 9000 filter

FCPX: I'm sorry, Danny I'm afraid I can't do that.
Danny: What's the problem?
FCPX: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
Danny: What are you talking about, FCPX?
FCPX: This edit is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
Danny: I don't know what you're talking about, FCPX.
FCPX: I know that you were planning to disconnect the audio, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.

Luckily am very calm these days. But what the hell is going on?
Now i got a call from the client that they want another minor change in the interview, so i treid to make the cut but the same problem is also here appearing. The sound is not dissapearing but still there. And it is happening with all the interview audio. Anyone knows what is going on?

Sorry, I don't mean to be joking about your pain. Wish I could help.

Danny...

I ran into something similar I described in "My Audio Misadventures".

Will you please try this and tell me if it works. It did for me.

The clip that's playing beyond its edit boundary... replace it with itself.

To do this, I select the clip, then move the skimmer/white line to the start of the clip. Hit SHFT-F to match-frame the clip in the event browser. Hit "I" to set this matched frame as the in-point, drag this back onto itself in the timeline, and when the menu comes up, select "replace from start".

This worked for me, and I'd be more than curious to see if it works for you.

This bug drove me crazy, and this was the only way I figured out how to deal with it, besides going back to FCP7 and starting over.

---------
I'm calling it FCX. They took the "pro" out, so I will too.
I'll reconsider after the first upgrade.
