Creating graphics in AE for FCP X
on Jul 12, 2011 at 10:00:37 pm

Hey everyone,

My issue is now that I have made the change over to FCP X my graphics are no longer nice and crisp. I have a bunch of intros, outros, nameplates, ect created in AE and exported using the animation codec, all these worked fine in FCP 7 but now come in slightly blurry. Can anyone shed any light on my issue here and help out? Also, I have tried matching the settings by exporting the graphics from AE as DV, DV50, Animation, ProRes422 and even MP4 just for the sake of trying.

Thanks for the helps guys

Isn't there a ProRes codec with alpha?

No need for Alpha for this project, and I have tried prores 422 as well HQ, and LQ

Then why use animation?

Can you screen shot the rendered QT file from AE? A screenshot of an Uncompressed frame in AE has no bearing here.

Hi Chase,

Did you check your settings in the preferences?
In the Playback section of the preference pane you can set the Playback Quality to "High Quality".
You might already have tried this, but it's all I can think of right now.

Prefs were set to high quality when the screen cap was taken.

Thanks for the reply though.

One other thing to check maybe.
When you select the clip, go to the inspector. Then the Info tab and at the bottom select "Settings View".
Here you can check if the field order settings match your project.
There might be a mismatch.
I had this the other day with XDCAM (SD) material that was shot progressive (PsF). My project was also progressive but the clips were interpreted as Upper Field First. The result was that I only saw half the resolution in the viewer. I had to set the field order to None.

Looks like interlaced graphic in a progressive project. What are the project settings in FCP?
