For grins, I priced out the Dell versus the MBP. Both with 6-core i9, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD. The Dell was about $1K cheaper. The MBP have 4 TB3 ports. The Dell has 1 TB3, plus a lot of other ports and slots. Of course, the Dell has less of a metal construction, but is still a slick machine. If you wanted to go with a Windows PC laptop, then that machine would definitely be a contender.

I still don't have a justification for having that much grunt in a laptop as I have all the grunt rack mounted in the machine room. I do have a i7gen8 13" Dell laptop with USB-c, 2 x USB3.1,SD card slot and HDMI 2 and it runs Linux Mint so I have a powerful enough laptop to play 4k H264 videos direct to projectors when required or just stream Netflix etc. It's my office and front end to the internet.

It is also handy to sometimes do some background tasks like batch converting audio files into 48k wavs. I am not a fan of just using QWERTY keyboards for editing/ grading etc and I hate that the scratch pad gets in the way of the keyboard. Honestly I would buy a laptop without a scratch pad as I always plug in a mouse. But using a laptop to edit or grade or sound post? No thanks
