Interesting that the screenshot at the bottom is Resolve, not FCPX. Features Blackmagic eGPU enclosure..

there are other shots of X. I think it's a good idea to show other, cross-platform products running on the new MBp.

[Craig Seeman] "Blackmagic eGPU Thought this might be of interest relative to the new MBP"

And so it begins...

This is, indeed, kind of interesting. It definitely helps performance on a 13" MBP, but the 15" is less impressive. I guess this is the GPU that is in the 27" iMac. It is also not upgradeable and more of an appliance. Baby steps, I guess.

It might be the beginning of a series, with a larger model that will house an AMD Vega 64 or WX9100.
So Blackmagic is entering the market of Sonnet and Akitio, as the Decklink market starts to dry up.

I think this is VERY interesting.

I do think it's interesting that they offer 6 core i7 and i9 though. Wonder how it all compares to a top BTO iMac.
Given the reliable rumors of a MacMini update this fall, things certainly look interesting. I'm going to guess new Quad i7 returns to the Mini.
Of course one can expect a nice CPU bump when the iMacs are updating later on.
It might be an interesting year for Mac computers this year even if it feels like a bit of catchup.

I was hoping they would make something for the 2013 Mac Pro but guessing Thunderbolt 3 is not backwards compatible. Still of interest to me regardless. It would not surprise e if BMD were to start offering storage solutions next.

1m55 ish.

TL:DW

i9 Processor seems to underperform due to cooling issues, and cannot outperform a 2017 i7 model. When the i9 model is placed in a FREEZER, the i9 chip is able to run at full pace and cuts its render times by 12 MINUTES. This is insanity. Nothing says enough with the skinny designs for a MacBook Pro like this does. Fair enough, this is running Premiere which everyone is going to say, hasn't been optimised for Mac performance, but unless FCPX does everything perfectly well with no cooling issues - this is bonkers.

Here’s a side by side.

If you do some more digging, cooling these processors in nearly any laptop configuration (gaming laptop PCs included) seems to be a challenge.

Here’s other videos where the 2018 wins over a 2017, but not over an iMac Pro:

So does this mean the forthcoming iMac with i9 should perform better as I assume the cooling in an iMac is more efficient?

I have no idea. But if you look around hard enough, even the giant ass PC laptops, that probably have similar thermal capabilities of an iMac, have some issues.

So...maybe? :)

Someone has found out that because of the cooling issue in the MacBook Pro...the i9 processor is throttled by the OS...so it really doesn't do any better than the i7. Unless you put it in the freezer...
