Any read yet on number of Sundance films cut on FCPX vs Premiere Pro vs Media Composer? Or maybe even Resolve?

I guess my question, to start the debate, is why that matters? If a shi**y film is cut on X, is there somehow a reflection on the product? That's what cracks me up about Avid's marketing: "All the Academy Award films were cut on Avid". What about the crappy films? All on Premiere?

And what would a number at Sundance reflect on the marketplace?

There ya go, red meat in the water! 😉

But if I had to bet, it would be:

Premiere
Media Composer
FCPX
Resolve

[Scott Witthaus] "I guess my question, to start the debate, is why that matters?"

It matters because it feeds the aspirational marketing engine, which in turn feeds sales.

Caught up with Sven Pape (this Guy Edits) at the LA thing last night. He's got a FCP X piece in Sundance. Know nothing beyond that.

Not sure that has worked too well for Avid (I have stock). BUT, if you are in that niche, it might be of interest.

Don't forget that Vegas could also be in there. According to Adobe's blog, 55% of the films there were cut using Premiere Pro.

Not Sundance, but still related. New user stories from Apple.

HEY! I worked with that Sean Baker guy, who shot the film on an iPhone. Well, I worked with him BEFORE he did that...on a show on MTV called WARREN THE APE. Cut with FCP, graded with COLOR. Oh so loooooong ago.

I can't wait to see it Nick. Was the aspect mask trick in Resolve I suggested for this film?

Thanks, Michael,
[Michael Gissing] "Was the aspect mask trick in Resolve I suggested for this film?"
no, sorry, it's for an upcoming film called Undertow.
It's going to screen at Melbourne Film Fest, then we'll see what happens.

cheers,
nick
