How to Use Ethernet service port in IBM LTO 6 drive?
on Aug 11, 2018 at 7:05:08 am

I am trying to use ethernet service port which is given in the rear side of the drive to check the status of the drive. The ip address that Ibm provided in the manual "http://169.254.0.3" is not working. Tried multiple times. I even changed the cable to check. But no luck. Any Ideas?

Networking isn't my strong point but if you just need to check the drive without being on the internet you could set a manual address for your network port in your computer to something similar like http://169.254.0.1 and set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 for it as well and then connect to it directly with a cable and then you should be able to see the device if you use the ping command to its address 169.254.0.3 so if the packets reach it then you should be able to use whatever diagnostic software you want.

You can't login to a tape drive via ethernet. The IBM 3580-H6S has ethernet for the purpose of using IBM Tivoli encryption manager.
