External HP LTO Ultrium 6 slow copy dropping in 22MB/s
on Oct 27, 2017 at 7:18:51 am

hi
like to ask some help again, we got new hp external lto ultrium 6, that connected in LSI sas 9211-8i 6gb, run in windows 7 64bit and were using HPE Storeopen Standalone for mapping the drive,
all drivers are installed,

my problem is when i start copying our files in size of 2.3 tera, the seed of copying is start in 161mb/s, after 5% to 10% the copy is dropping in to 22mb/s ,
if there's away to build up the seed and be stable my seed copy?

thanks.

Hi Randy,

Aside from the fact that LTFS is normally slow on Windows, you are correct that 22MB/sec is a bit out of the norm. Are you dragging and dropping the files in Explorer? That will really slow things down as Explorer tries to keep up with the new files on the tape.

Try changing your workflow to use the COPY or XCOPY commands from PowerShell or a Cmd terminal to copy the data. This prevents Explorer from constantly trying to update the folder info on the tape.
