HP store open restoring problems
on Oct 5, 2014 at 2:11:30 pm

I use HP Store Open for a while now and I have a lot of problems with the tape
after backing up files on the cartrriage when I want to resstore someting from it I can't load it
the store open become not responding and it won't load the tape
I have one tape that works fine
and all the others won't do so

I have to make them work cause I have no other backup

I installed the new version of store open 2.2.1
and I'm using windows server 2008 R2 x64

when I run check on the tape I'm getting error:

you have now realized what many people on this forum have gone thru. HP StorOpen is full of bugs, and is not reliable. This is why most of us use products from Tolis Group or Imagine Products (or others that are reliable).

Unfortunately, this appears to be an issue with the index partition on that tape. You might be able to force a deep scan recovery (can take many hours), but unless that works, you won't be able to access the data on that tape.

If I had a dollar ...

I'll try to do that
but it doesn't sound really hopeful

is there another way to recover these tapes?

or maybe to try and recover it from the server itself?

Unfortunately, once the Index partition is corrupted on an LTFS tape, it's pretty much all over for the data contained on that tape.

We've tried a number of options to try and rescue these types of failed LTFS tapes in our lab, but we've had no success to date.
