BRU PE 3.1 does not see my tape drive
on May 13, 2014 at 5:56:10 pm

So I have done a fresh install to 10.9.2 along with fresh install of all of my apps.

Last thing to update is Bru PE. I have a edit cube connected via SAS(ATTO ExpressSAS R680) . I have installed Bru PE 3.1 copied my app support files from the previous OS put it into the new OS. Am I forgetting something here? Should I be looking for a driver for my tape device? I have tried to set it up in preferences, but it does not see my tape drive.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Be sure to install the latest ATTO R680 drivers. The versions included with OS X 10.9 is a downgraded version.

There are no tape drivers for OS X, all of the logic is built into BRU itself.

Don't forget, you can always get through to our support team at 480-505-1814 or by opening a ticket at http://support.bru.com

Tim,

Thanks for the info. I installed the driver, but Bru PE still does not see the tape drive. If I installed the driver, should I be seeing the tape drive in my system report on the OS? Looks Like I'll be contacting customer support.
On another topic, I've been using BRU PE for about 2 years now. It works great, but I think I am still a novice user. Do you guys have any tutorials (paid or free)of any sort, that can help me to get a better understanding of the software.

Thanks again.

Todd,
Launch BRU PE and go to Preferences/Devices and select your drive there. (Obviously, the drive must be on before you open BRU PE)

John,

Thanks. That is the issue, when I launch BRU PE. The tape drive is on, but It come up with the dialogue saying that the The tape drive is not connected. Do you want to Continue or power on then start. Anyway, I hit continue, go to prefs. and to select my tape drive, and it's a no go. I have also restarted the program to make sure it sees the tape drive, I still get the dialogue.

Hi Todd,

Yes - if the drive does not show up under System Profiler -> SAS Devices, BRU PE can never see it (true for all software). If the system doesn't see the drive, you're at a full stop.

Also, if you run the ATTO Config Tool, do you see the drive on one of the channel pages?

As for tutorials, we'd be happy to host a Webex session for you to give you a broader view of the processes and workflow.

Also, some videos examining the new elements are being recorded.

Tim,

Yes, I just ran the config tool. and I only see my Raid on Channel 1. I do not see the Tape Drive. Looks like that could be the issue. I would be interested in a Webex session.

Thank you.

bet you have a bad mini sas cable. If you in fact have the ATTO R680, try the SECOND PORT on the R680. Make sure that there is NOTHING else in the miniSAS chain - at least while you are trying to get this to work.

Bob,

Thanks for your help on this.

I did try that to no avail. I did boot up in 10.8.5, and BRU PE saw the tape drive no problem. I'm not sure what I have done wrong in 10.9.2. for it not to be seen.

Todd,

If you're seeing the drive on that HBA in the earlier version of OS X, then it is definitely an issue with the ATTO driver installed in 10.9. Please double check that you have downloaded and installed the version of the ATTO R680 driver with version 3.25 from http://www.attotech.com.

The earlier drivers only support disk on 10.9 because of some Apple changes.
