IS needed for 28mm-75mm lens???
on Dec 25, 2011 at 3:58:40 pm

HI,

I'm looking at getting this lens, primarily for video shooting [some personal stills work]

Is this focal length ok to not have Image Stabilization [for video]?

Also, anyone got any comments about this lens?

Thanks,

Wayne

For high definition video I prefer to use only an image stabilized lens unless you want to use a tripod all the time.
I dropped the f 2.8 28-70mm L EF lens $2.000 (it is a great lens) but , too heavy, for an Canon IS 28-135 EF as it was more useful @ $750. For video it is ideal hand held, even the stills look very good.
You can fix any camera movement in Premiere Pro but, it is not the best way to go.

Hi Bob,

The 28-135 isn't a constant aperture [AFIK], is that what you use?

Hi Wayne,
I have been using the f/3.5-5.6 IS USM EF28-135mm for 3 years, checked by Canon Service and cleaned once only.

See Canon for Specifications for details.

Not sure what you mean by constant (AFIK) but, I usually set this at f/5.6 and let it choose its own aperture , as the variable ISO settings on this camera is amazing, you do not need a fast lens in low light. I have shot video at speeds of 1/50, 1/125, and 1/500 sec with no adverse effect on smoothness, the results have been truly amazing.

Do not take my word for it, try the lens out when you get the Camera.

A+ is the automated ISO setting and can be extended beyond ISO 6400

I usually use -1 aperture compensation to reduce over exposure ?
