shooting 24p for broadcast 29.97

Hi Everyone,
I just got my new Canon 5D mark ii rig. I usually shoot tv commercials and corporate video HDV 30F on my XL-H1a, so this is nice step up for me. I look forward to tackling the challenges of shooting on an HDSLR to achieve the look the 5D is capable of. One question I have is that if I chose to shoot native 24p, when do I convert the footage to 29.97 for broadcast. Should I set my sequence in FCP at 24p, and then render the final output to 29.97, or should I convert the 24p footage to 29.97 (using Cinema Tools??) right after capture, and then edit on a 29.97 timeline? I've never had to convert true 24p to 29.97. Does it look weird when frames are added? Anyone with recommendations on this would be great help. Thanks

Jeff,
I have used the Canon 5D mark II for 18 months but, in PAL at 25fps not 24 fps (that is movie mode) and a HV20 as VTR at 1920 x 1080p. Frankly your 5D running at 30fps will still give you the look you want without resorting to 24 fps. it is all in the lens and 35mm sensor, the purists may disagree, but, we do travel and it is stunning , see low level clips from Hong Kong , Taiwan , Korea etc using 5D mark II with Canon Fish-eye Lens and 25-105mm IS EF

This is a top camera http://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/controller?act=GetArticleAct&articleID=2326

The out put of the XL H1A @ 1440 x 1080 HDV (DIGIC 2 Processor) is the same as the HV20/30/40 and is anamorphically changed by Canon's pixel-shift technology to 1920 x 1080 Widescreen, the sensor in the 5D mark II (DIGIC 4 PROCESSOR) is three times the size to 35mm for a "cinema look", but, not always the look you want for broadcast, it appears to me to be sharper at 30fps and 25fps for broadcast.

PS . The sheer size of the H.264 mov clips from the Canon 5D mark II is more difficult to process than HDV/mpeg-2 in Premiere Pro and may need an i7 64bit Quad Core Processor for PC

Great shooting

Broadcast folks all want and will argue about shooting in 24p, they almost always want 29.97.
Stick to that for Broadcast. I have heard this argument to many times.
