Canon 70D Video has stopped recording automatically.. after 5 or 6 seconds
on Oct 4, 2018 at 4:36:11 pm

So, I am completely stumped on this one. I was at a shoot this morning and my B camera, the Canon 70D would not shoot more than 5 seconds of video at at time without this asinine message. I am back at my office now with the same 32GB SanDisk card and the thing is running with no problems. I’ve had it rolling now for almost 8 and a half minutes. I understand the limitations that DSLR cameras have with video, but that should never happen after such a short amount of time.

The fact that it’s running fine now completely baffles me.

Any suggestions?

Was it a really bright scene? And how fast is the card?

The card is SanDisk 80mb/s. I thought that might be the issue so I swapped it with a 90mb/s card. It doesn't really help me figure out what was wrong at the time because once I got back, the card(s) was working just fine. Bizarre.

Do a fresh, in-camera format of the card. Sometimes it screws things up when you delete files from it in your desktop OS.

The other thing to try is shooting a really overexposed scene. I don't know why, but I find that when I'm using a card that's slow, a really overexposed scene will get it to overflow the buffer faster.

You shouldn't have much trouble with those card speeds, but you never know.
