External Monitor on 7D

Hello there, new to CC but love the power of knowledge on this site. Anyway I have a 7D and use a Zacuto EVF viewfinder which plugs into the mini HDMI on the 7D, I want to also hook up an external 7" Monitor to my 7D. Is this possible and how?

Thank you

The only port you have on a DSLR is the mini-HDMI port. So you'll have to run your monitor through there. If you still want to have your EVF then you could use a monitor that has a HDMI loop-through. Monitor plugs into camera and EVF plugs into monitor.

I really like the equipment (and people) over at SmallHD. The gear is well built, accurate, and affordable. I have 3 of their monitors for my team. everybody loves them. Something like the DP4 they sell may be exactly what you're looking for: http://www.smallhd.com/products/dp4/index.html

You can also check out Delvcam or Marshall for other monitoring solutions for DSLR's.

I run a couple of DP4s, a DP6, and a AC7. It depends on how big of a monitor you want and how portable you want to be. For many of my team they think the AC7 is too big if they want to be portable and in a run-and-gun style. The DP6 (now discontinued) seems to be the agreed upon sweet spot. But for the lightest portable rig we use the DP4's pretty often. The AC7 isn't terribly heavy, but it is big as a 7 inch screen (kinda like an iPad-mini size, just a bit smaller).

But you really can't go wrong with SmallHD. Their products are solid and they have good customer support if you need it. If you get one of their monitors you can also purchase a Canon 5D/7D battery bracket which allows you to use your existing LP-E6 Canon batteries to power the SmallHD monitor. That's how we power all our monitors when in the field - http://www.smallhd.com/products/dp6/accessories.html

Ryan's right on that. For passthru i think you need smallhd. Marshall is good but i don't think it has passthru.
