CineStyle profile in 7D

After being disappointed with the results of the Canon presets in our new 7D I've been messing about with the Technicolor CineStyle preset. So far it's working out great once the clips have some contrast applied to them and they're colored. So what's the deal with the LUT? I have LUTBuddy in FCP and as far as I can tell it's doing the same thing as the 3-way color corrector but each clip needs to be rendered. I exported a sequence to Color, added some contrast and saturation, sent it back to FCP, and it looks great. Still not using the LUT at all. Is it really necessary? Our workflow is all in house and it consists of FCP and Color.

No, it's not necessary to apply the LUT and no, it doesn't do anything you can't do with your favourite grading tool.
The LUT is - simply speaking - just a curves effect. It's kind of a suggestion the makers of the cinestyle profile make how the final graded footage could look like. And it's an easy way to make a "fast grade". Just apply the LUT and *boom*... Useful for showing footage to your clients without too much fussing around with a three-way-corrector.

Thanks, Peter.
That's kind of what I was thinking, just needed to hear it from someone else I guess. =)
