Anyone have an opinion on this Libec TH200

I'm thinking of getting this - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/411041-REG/Libec_TH_2000_TH_2000_Vide... -
since i need a tripod to support a teleprompter and my camera. It's going to be in a fixed position the whole time so I dont mind going low end here. When not using the teleprompter, I can just use my normal tripod.

Anyone have thoughts/experience with this?

Hey Noam,

I had to read your post twice - you want to put both a teleprompter and your beloved camera on a consumer solution tripod + expect it still to be sitting there when you return?

It does say in the specs that it can handle 15 kg, but with all the kit that you are going to load it with. Setting aside the loading support on the legs, I would suggest that you want something where it is easy for you to lower and raise the legs and make sure that the camera is in level with the subject - this tripod does not seem to offer you those basic functionalities?

All the Best

It looks like a moderately priced, decent tripod, but I don't think I'd put a prompter rig on it. It's a bit underpowered for that.

Look at it this way, it's not just the weight of the additional rig, it's the additional height above the tilt axis, and that much moving mass makes it harder to control. Also, consider adjustable drag as a very desirable feature.

A proper tripod should outlast the camera it supports. And no one ever grumbled about having purchased something that was too good or too durable.

I routinely use a Teleprompter with a Canon xf305 on a Manfrotto set of carbon fiber legs, and a Libec RH-25(0) head. I would spend the money on a setup like this, you will have it for years, longer than any camera. I would recommend even getting the better head, the 350 I think. I don't think that particular tripod is going to be satisfactory for your requirements.

I did not like the Manfrotto heads. they don't pan as well as the Libecs. Been there, done that. Libec legs in the price range you are in don't seem to be worth it.

A good review on Libec's by a working pro is found here.

He really hit the nail on the head as far as I was concerned, laying out some very good positives. I would buy the 350 if I had to do it over again, but I got the 250 on Ebay, at a significantly discounted price. It's been great, but I do prefer my Manfrotto CF legs to the Libec legs, the are a bit lighter, and more sturdy in high winds, which I get a lot up here in the Pacific Northwest on the coast.
