HD Cameras for occasional use underwater

Hello - I'm about to purchase my first HD camera - woot! However, I'm looking for one that is handicam size, as I will eventually be purchasing an underwater housing for it and don't want to pay thousands of dollars for a large housing. This camera would be use both on land and in water, so I'm looking to see if anyone uses their HD camera for both land and underwater purposes.

I'm also interested in suggestions for any HD camera. I've been scouring the web all day and have found a lot of potentials, but as I've never worked with HD before, I'd appreciate some advice from my peers.

Thanks!

ETA: I'm a professional video editor who also occasionally shoots video, which is why I'm a bit unsure how to proceed with this purchase.

You didn't mention budget...

But a great hand-held HD camera IMO would be the Panasonic HPX170.
You'll need to invest in P2 Cards of course.

Going down from there could be the HMC40 & HMC150 on SD cards.
