Shooting background with half green screen?
on Dec 9, 2010 at 7:43:13 pm

I have a client who wants a wide-shot shoot with the top half of the background as green screen and the bottom half as a black/ white mottled cloth flooring. The top portion of the person being shot will be in the green screen portion and the bottom half of the person in the black/ white mottled flooring. I'll be keying the video and have some concerns:

(1) that the black/white mottled flooring will be flooded with green spill
(2) the chroma key will be tricky pulling green from half of a person (matte clipping even by 1-2 pixels looking strange, etc.)

If any of you have ever shot this way before, any insight, thoughts, or suggestions would be appreciated.

Your concerns are right, both things can happen.

If you will not be moving the camera from place you can go full green screen and just replace the floor in post.

For any move you'll need some marks on the green screen to track. Triangles, squares, crosses and angles in the wall are good for tilt and pan, but if you have a dolly you may want to add some extra marks (different color) on a tripod to do a 3D tracking.

I hope this helps
