Im guilty of watching reality tv shows because i like to deconstruct the production...well that is what i tell my wife ;)
But for many years now, i have been wondering how the audio is captured on shows like the bachelor. I often try to watch the back of these people to see where the wireless pack is hidling, which then tells me they are wearing a mic. But it is never visible on the front. The only time i know that it is there is when they go for a hug and try and talk at the same time which then results in muffled audio.
But i never hear the mic rubbing against a piece of clothing or the wind passing through it.
There are many ways of securing lav mics to actors while remaining invisible. And there are many ways of hiding the body-pack transmitter on the actor somewhere under their wardrobe. Those prime-time "reality" shows are high-budget productions with skilled audio crews. And the "reality" genre has evolved its own industry tips and tricks.
