Cardiod or Hypercardiod Lav for Shop Areas?
on Sep 21, 2012 at 3:07:49 am

I do some corporate video recording of an on-camera spokesman reading from a teleprompter in a community college shop area. The recording is normally not during class time, so there is no problem with background noise except for exhaust fans. The bigger problem is that the sound bounces around with all the hard surfaces. I cannot add sound blankets, so I'm using a Sony unidirectional cardiod lav mic on my Sony UWP-V1 wireless package. I'm not that happy with the Sony lav performance. Do you think a Countryman Isomax hypercardiod mike would work better for voice? How do you suggest I place it on the talent for best response?

Hello David and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

Hi Ty,
The frequency response doesn't match well with the Sony omni. It sounds much more skewed to higher frequencies. Perhaps this is normal with a cardiod, but it also distorts hard "S" sounds.

Thanks for any advise!
Dave
