Intermittent bad audio
on Nov 30, 2011 at 9:45:44 pm

I am encountering an intermittent problem when recording audio that I don't hear while the recording session is underway. I record voice over narrator sessions that may last 25 minutes and occasionally in the middle of the session will be a 5-10 second segment that sounds like a dirty signal. Any ideas?

Here is a link to hear what it sounds like:

It sounds digital to me because the audio completely cuts out. There's no clipping and it doesn't sound like the hard limiting that goes on when digital clipping occurs.

Hmm...maybe others will have a better idea.

Will, can you please post your signal flow an the specific gear you used to record and capture the audio?

It sounds almost like a wireless microphone is having its frequency stepped on, possibly by a TV station, since they're more powerful and (legally) obliged to do so.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Here is the signal flow:
ElectroVoice RE20 to wall xlr input to wall xlr output to Edirol UA-1X usb audio interface splitting to Dell pc and mackie onyx 1640.The sound card for the dell computer is either SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio Or Legacy Audio Drivers.

Here is a flowchart depiction.
