Audio Setup for Final Cut Pro
on Feb 14, 2011 at 11:44:50 pm

Hello and thank you in advance for any helpful advice.

I would like to buy nice audio setup for my mac based Final Cut Pro editing system.

Most of my films go to theaters, film festivals, DVD and the web. I want a setup that will give me accurate sounds, from highs to lows and base. Something that will give me a good idea of how my film will sound in these venues.

As far as budget, what are my options?

Thanks,

Will Keir

Hello Will and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

Are you asking about a monitoring system?

Do you want surround?

Thanks Ty. Yeah, I am getting a sound system for my final cut pro editing suit.

So monitor = speaker right?

Yeah, that's what I'm looking for. Quality Monitors and quality sound for projects I edit and do minor sound work on.

What would you recommend? Are there any good articles you might suggest or reviews to check out?

Thanks,

Will Keir

Will,

Do you have an audio /video breakout or I/O box?

Do you want stereo, 5.1 or 7.1 sound?

Regards,

Ty Ford

Ty,

No Audio/Video breakout box, or anything. I have a macbook pro and a mac pro with only internal speakers. I'm building the sound setup for editing on the mac Pro. Hopefully it can be used for the macbook pro too.

I think 5.1 sound would be a great goal. Stereo is good, but I'd like to take it to the next level. 7.1, that's a lot of monitors. My office is 11'x 11' with a 8' roof sloping to 10' on the high end.

The best way is to have an accurate monitoring system for yourself and demo everything in your own built-to-spec personal theatre...but if you don't have one to do that in, then audition the films at local places - you'd be surprised how many people are willing to help out, you just have to ask.

I've noticed that a lot of video editors like the Blue Sky MediaDesk system; about $1,600.

There's a lot more to audio monitoring than speakers; proper placement, room treatment and isolation are also very important.

Peace,

Bob
