Bluetooth for monitoring audio at a camera
on May 26, 2010 at 8:17:10 pm

I asked the cow a few weeks ago about using Bluetooth to monitor a live feed from a camera. Skipping the hard wired headphones.
The challenge that I have found is that there is a 1/2 second delay using bluetooth. That might be a problem when listening to an audio feed where timing is an issue, such as live music.

Violence may not be the answer but it sure cuts down on the questions.

Hi Ray,

Thanks for the details. I knew there was some latency involved, but I didn't know how much.

That would be irksome

500ms of latency seems like a bit much. The manual doesn't mention any figures, so I can't really verify anything. I'd give JK Audio a call and get their take on it.

If there was that much inherent delay native to Bluetooth, I'd think using a Bluetooth headset on a cellphone would make having a conversation in real-time nearly impossible.

I'm HIGHLY interested in anyones findings!

Currently toying around with blueTooth transmission of LTC.

Now a latency is no problem at all,
AS LONG AS IT IS ALWAYS THE SAME.
(if so, it's very easy to compensate for that.)

Can someone confirm or deny that the latency is always the same?

thx,

Bouke

The testing I did was with a keyboard sampler.
I plugged in a wired headphone and when I pressed a key, the sound was immediate.
When I plugged in my Bluetooth headset in the same jack, there was a delay.
The "half second" was just a guess and not "clocked".

I could listen to my Ipod all day but I couldn't compose new music using my Bluetooth combination.
