Portable Personal Digital Audio Recorder

I have a teacher friend who is going to an archaeological dig and asked me what I'd recommend so he could record his comments while working. I was thinking an easy-to-use, inexpensive personal digital recorder with either a headboom mike or clip on lapel.

He wants good voice quality for documentation and multimedia apps.
Price & performance of course ( he's a low-paid teacher ).

Thanks in advance,

Chaz

The Zoom H2 recorder would be a good fit, methinks. It's simple enough to use and professional enough that he will get the desired results with a little practice. He can add a lapel mic later on.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I like the price performance and features of this unit.
