How to record Travel TV show sound?
on May 16, 2009 at 6:57:14 am

Hi,

We are doing a travel related television show, which is low on budgets.

We would be shooting various range of places, from snow covered areas, jungles, coastal to desserts. The shoots are going to be rugged and quick. The kind of sound I want to capture is

1. People speaking and host bytes
2. Ambient Sound
3. Local folk music

I am looking for suggestions for portable equipment which can be used by a sound recordists on the move. I can hire equipment. Also need inputs on the baisc required mics other than wireless lapel.

Thanks,
Anand

Hello Anand and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

The Sennheiser MHK 416 shotgun is known for its ruggedness. The Rode NYG-3 is a new mic of similar design. The ElectroVoice RE 50 is a great handheld mic.

Ty Ford

By portable PA system, do you mean Public Address system? Meaning that you have a mic and a speaker that you can amplify your voice with? If so, here's one:

Yes, I did mean a Public Address system. But currently decided against it.

Now I shall be carrying, a portable audio mixer and a mini recorder.

Audio Mixer - Marantz PMD-671.

Highly appreciate all your inputs.

Thanks,
Anand

Boy, I'm glad you did! That adds a whole 'nother piece of the puzzle to worry about and deal with...
