synch text to audio
on Nov 12, 2007 at 5:52:24 pm

I have a client that a has a number of audio recordings they want to post on an On-demand server. They want to be able to synch the audio with an on screen rolling print version of the audio. Is there any software out there that will do it without manually typing in the transcript? Voice recognition linked somehow? I am using Sound Forge and Sony Vegas, will these be of any help?

Any suggestions welcome!
Thanks for your time.

Tom

I haven't seen speech to text apps do it reliably

Thanks for your Reply,
So if they want to do this, they will need to manually transcribe the audio, then link it to the video/audio?
I was thinking that may be the case, also,Is there an easy way to synch the audio(once it is in print form) to scroll in a window as the video plays on the website?
I was wondering if there are apps designed for the hearing impaired that would do some of this.

Thanks,
Tom

Hi again Tom,

Another thought...

There used to be a PC-based program I would see at NAB every year that did voice to text conversion.

I think it cost less than $500. You had to "teach" it to understand you correctly by reading a page they sent with the software that had certain phonems that helped it learn.

It seemed to work pretty well at the show, but since it was a PC program and I'm a Mac guy, it was a dead end for me.

You might try googling speech to text and PC to see what comes up.

About the syncing. I would think that would be a "by hand" process.

Regards,

Ty

Thanks!
This building is 99% PC (pun intended), so that's fine. I will do a google search and pass the info along.
again thanks!

Ty, if the program you're thinking about is Naturally Speaking, I've used it. You do have to train it for your voice, and I'm not sure how much time it actually saved me.

Thomster, you might want to hire this out to a captioning company. They usually do this for videos, but if they have the ability to create transcripts and sync them to a time-code video they should be able to do the same for audio.
