Locking Mini to Regular Mini?
on Nov 11, 2006 at 9:08:19 pm

I have the Sennheiser Wireless mics. The Lavlier Mics that come with it have a locking Mini which I cannot use on anything else except their units. I want to be able to use these Lavliers directly wired to the Camera. Is there a Converter plug that will allow me to get a regular Mini from this Locking Mini?

Thanks

You must have a "convertor box" to get the "Phantom Power" coming from the camera (if any) to operate the mics' internal IC amplifier.

There are some stand-alone (no"Phantom Power" needed) "convertor boxes" that have internal batteries that can power these mics.
The boxes have a standard full-size XLR jack output on them.

Contact Sennheiser with the model number of your specific lav mics and ask what they have for you.

My Camera already has the ability to provide Power to the Mic.
I thought this was only a connection issue, not a power issue as well.
Or are you saying it needs a particular type of power?

Thanks

[Rafi Bagramian] "Or are you saying it needs a particular type of power?"

Yes.

These tiny mics usually on have a single inner conductor and a wrap-around shield (not two inner conductors like a standard "balanced" mic line.

You must provide DC power with the right current-limiting resistor to operate them, as well as take the audio off of the same inner lead.

This is NOT true of ALL mini mics, but those which are connected by a short cable directly to a wireless transmitter USUALLY are this kind.

Thank You. Now I'm posting a new question regarding my regular Lavalier Mics.
