How is it done? Four people on lavs at a round table without phasing.

I have been looking for a better way than "ducking" the audio. I have three to four people sitting at a table for TV. All wearing lav mics, omnis. If I don't ride the levels and duck the mics when only one person is talking, I get a phase delay and a hollow sound in the other mics.
Bad news is that I get bit a few times when I have a mic down 50% and the person says "Yes" or uh huh.
A shotgun on a boom is not an option.

No problem. Use an auto mixer like the Shure FP410 or record each mic to a separate track and remove the off-mic tracks in post.

Did I forget to mention that this is a "Live" show to cable TV?

It goes directly to live cable with a short delay.

Try a multi channel gate. Set it up with a gentle gate that will not allow low db levels through. When someone speaks the gate will open and let the signal through.

Of Course! Like an automated mic mixer similar to the Shure SCM810? I hadn't thought of that.

It is so obvious to me now!

You guys are going to make me look good.

.... if you don't ask, you'll never learn new things. I still ask question all the time. Good luck.
