shotgun mic/boom set up
on Feb 24, 2006 at 12:22:22 am

I am planning on purchasing a Sennheiser ME66/K6 shotgun mic. for event videography recording. I have been researching wired boom poles and shock mounts and would like to get some experienced advice on brands and options that fit a tight budget. Thanks!

Just for fun.

I made my own boom pole for about $15.

Its simply an aluminum extendable paint-roller handle.

I KNOW is not a $435 graphite whiz-bang, but it holds a mic near the talent when I need it.

Its light-weight and it works just fine.

The "screw" end is rather soft plastic and it was easy use a "Dremel Tool" to quickly whittle down the end to a size that a standard screw-on mic clip would fit.

You can find these poles in various lengths at Home Depot, Loew's and similar home centers.

It couldn't hurt to just LOOK at one, pick it up and SEE what you think.

Go to eBay and search on "boom poles". There's quite a large selection at some fairly good prices. Also some $100 range poles.

I purchased an articulated one for under $100 new with warranty.
