Eliminating buzz on electrolarynx recording

Hello Audio Pros,

We've interviewed a cancer patient who has an electrolarynx. It creates a buzz which is then converted into speech by what remains of the throat. In person, the buzz is not very noticable, but when recorded, it is very distracting.

Does anyone know EQ settings which I can use to minimize the buzz? Or any other tricks I can use in my non-linear editor?

I will also post this in other forums.

Thanks

Well, that's what those devices sound like.

You could use Sony Noise Reduction or Soundsoap to sample the buzz and perhaps reduce gain for it alone.

I suspect EQ is not going to do it - if I remember correctly, those devices produce a fairly wide frequency spectrum. But then, maybe some freqs are more distracting?

Thanks for your response.

I ended up not changing the sound at all. We open captioned the interview subject so the viewer could understand what he was saying.
