Audio on a Mountain
on Jul 2, 2005 at 11:01:35 pm

Hi,

I am working on a documentary about Noah's Ark in Turkey. Within the next few weeks I'm planning to meet a team in Turkey to climb Mt. Ararat, the 17,000 ice caped mountain.

What do you recommend for audio recording? I would like to pick up the extreme conditions of the mountain such as snow and wind. But, I must also record voices at times. Would it be best to take both a shotgun and wireless mic? What models?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Sounds like a fun trip.

Shotgun I'd suggest a Schoeps CMC641, or Sennhieser MKH416 or MKH60.
I'd assume you have some money doing a doc like that.

As for a lav I couldn't tell you a specific one.

I would definately suggest a good zeplin with a dead cat (wind sock)
it's probably going to get a little windy at 17,000 feet.

Lav though put it under some garments of the talent to help block the wind.
(figure you allready know that though)

Hope you come back in one piece, don't forget your board you can have a fun ride on the way down!
