I need some new headphones for my location work, I seem to have seen a Sony foldable pair recommended selling for around $99. I need them to be compact, high quality and above all robust. Any other suggestions?
'Round here (Northwestern US) the Sony MDR-7506 is somewhat of a standard for location work. Yes it does fold, and yes it typically discounts for about $100. Comes with a leatherette drawstring bag and a 3.5mm to 1/4" adaptor that screws on and won't accidentally fall off.
There is also a pair of Sennheiser for about the same price that many people like for music. Don't have a model number - sorry.
I own several pair of each model... wouldn't shoot without a set of either on my head.
(In fact, nobody would recognize me without those 'phones over my ears.)
They are so rugged that I am on my second set of ear-cushions (just worn from USE) on 4 pair that have had no mechanical or audio problems in hundreds of hours of use (many times outdoors) and then they just "stuffed" into my camera gadget bags.
