WHOLE Computer is crashing when trying to export
on Aug 11, 2017 at 3:32:58 pm

I built a new computer and tried to export a project and multiple times it has frozen the whole computer. Even leaving it for an hour or so it does not fix itself. Have had to hard reboot it each time. Granted I am asking a lot of it but an older computer has done a similar project without crashing.

I am trying to export to an MPeg-2-DVD format at typical NTSC settings.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Maybe it's the computer.

It Might . The Computer Specs are:

AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Six-Core 3.2 GHz
GeForce GTX 1050ti
16GB of RAM
Windows 10

Thought it should be more than enough but shrug. First time using AMD processors. Maybe its just not strong enough.

What I meant is, maybe when you put the computer together you did something wrong.

Maybe so, however it does everything else fine. I can play games, rip DVDs, stream and whatever else. Also not sure what I could do wrong that would ONLY affect premiere

What format are the source files? What are the sequence settings? What are your exact export settings?

The files are 1440x1080 m2ts, avc format and I am exporting to format: MPEG-2-DVD / 16:9 / 720x480 / 29.97 m2v and wav audio file

Sequence settings I have tried matching the source and exporting to MPEG-2-DVD as well as having the sequence settings be 720x480 16:9, scaling to frame size rendering then exporting. They both yielded the same results, computer crashed.

Are you able to render to anything other than the MPEG-2? Say DNxHD or H264?

Yeah I have exported out into a few different formats that work just fine (H.264/AVI and such) but to be fair none of them have been as intensive as the current project.

Let us know what version of the Adobe suite you are using, and tell us more about your storage, including what is running from what drive, and what is rendering to what drive.

System:
Dell Precision T7600 (x2)
Win 7 64-bit
32GB RAM
Adobe CC 2015.02 (as of 6/2016)
256GB SSD system drive
4 internal media drives RAID 5
Typically cutting short form from HD MP4 and P2 MXF.

Version of Premiere: 2017.1.2 11.1.2 (22) Build

Storage is 2 WD hard drives. A 2TB that is my main drive and a 3TB that is primarily a storage drive. Premiere is running off of the 2TB and its pulling the videos from the 3TB. And I export to the 3TB. I have tried exporting to the main 2TB and it still crashed. Also the cache files are set to save with the project so it saves in the 3TB.

Make new project and import old one into this new one.
Export again. If you are using the Queue use Export or v.v.
Change vbr to cbr or v.v.
Change vbr2 to vbr1 or v.v.
All these things are worth a try.

I will try that out. I have not tried cbr yet but I started out on vbr 1. Thanks!

"none of them have been as intensive as the current project."
your computer is either overheating as you state above, or you're leaking ram from the old bios as its a new ryzen board.

I have done some tests and do not THINK it is the latter with the ram. But it could be the former. These AMD processors run really hot with the stock cooler even when not being pushed. I hope it is not that though, Id rather not have to get a new cooler or worse rebuild the whole motherboard with a different CPU. Thanks so much for the suggestions though.

You know, when I first got this PC a few weeks ago I set power options to never off, basically, and Media Encoder crashed, or "failed" constantly, until I changed my power options to more reasonable settings, so it COULD be over heating that's causing your problem. You pointed out that it does over heat even when doing minor tasks so...

When a computer hard crashes while you're doing something intensive like that I'm inclined to think you've picked up a stick of bad RAM. You probably want to test your memory. Good thing with that is it's an easy fix.

EDIT sorry just saw you'd already addressed this above.

If RAM is the typical culprit I will do another test. The computer is also like 2or3 times a week blue screening me. So yeah its prob hardware. Here is hoping it is RAM. I would MUCH prefer that

Jesse I had a really stupid one happen to me with overheating and crashing of my HP Z800. Turns out that when I had installed the Nvidia graphics card, I tucked the wire bundle into the hole where the fan was, stopping it from turning - every time I rendered - Kerash!!!! You're probably not that stupid - I was...

Hey Joseph,

I will take a look if any of my wires are impeding anything. I am AWFUL at cable management so it very well could be a thing. Thanks for the suggestion!
