add edit jumps to previous frame before cutting

So I receive sourcematerial from my client, 1 mxf or mov with a number of shots concatenated.

I go trough the clip, adding edits to seperate the shots. So I park my blue bar on the first frame of a new shot, hit the add-edit-button.
And then it depends: sometime this works, other times the blue bar jumps back a frame, and adds the edit there.

Any idea how to avoid this?

Do the frame rates match between this footage and the project?
Have you transcoded this to a codec that contains complete image information for each and every frame?

They do match... I just drop my videoclip onto the 'make new sequence' button to make sure that everything lines up nicely. The latest sourcefile that had this occuring was an MXF exported from Avid:

MXF File details:
Wrapper type: MXF OP1a (type: SingleItem SinglePackage MultiTrack Stream Internal)
File generated by: AVID, TRMG (3.01)
MPEG-2 422 Long-GOP

I'm betting it's the long-GOP thing, isn't it?

[Frank Feijen] "I'm betting it's the long-GOP thing, isn't it?"

That's my suspicion! Any time I see the terms "long gop" and "Adobe product" together, I'm all for transcoding if there's trouble.

As Dave mentioned, I've seen this happen when frame rates don't match.
